Introducing version 2 of AlertPay's Encrypted Payment Details

AlertPay is proud to announce our new and improved EPD (Encrypted Payment Details).

EPDs allow merchants to receive the same IPN (Instant Payment Notification) data that is sent to their Alert URL to a specific Return URL. Customers will be able to view the details of their transaction(s) once redirected to the merchant's website after a successful payment.

What's the difference between EPD and IPN?

The point of the EPD is to allow you to complete any post-payment actions on the page where your customers are directed after they complete their payment.

Post-payment actions can include displaying transaction details or allowing a customer to download a digital item.

The main difference between EPD and IPN is that EPD is not used to update a database or fulfill orders since you will not receive a payment notification if the customer navigates away from the page before the payment is complete.

In a nutshell, EPDs have the same security as the "handshake method" used with IPNs, and the merchant must first send a token which they will send back to AlertPay.

These are some other features of EPD version 2.0:

- Tokens sent with the FORM GET method
- Sent to only once to the merchant's Return URL
- Not as reliable as IPN since you may not receive a notification if the customer closes their browser window before the transaction is complete.

How do they work?

There are two ways in which EPDs work:

1. A customer makes a payment to you through the AlertPay checkout page.
2. AlertPay sends an IPN message to your Alert URL and appends an encrypted version of the IPN message to your Return URL.
