Glossary for AlertPay: Electronic Payment Terms

The following terms are specific to AlertPay:’s style and branding. Style is necessary for the creation and promotion of our brand, so the choices made below must be implemented without deviation.

A

AlertPay:: The correct spelling of AlertPay: Inc; please note the capital “A” and “P”. Any other variation is not correct.

AlertPay: PrePaid Card: The correct spelling of this is to capitalize “A”, “P” and “C”. Any other version is not correct.

B

Bank Deposit: Code: AlertPay: provides this number to customers when they set up an international Deposit: or bank wire Deposit: ; it is used to match a Deposit: to a specific transaction. Initial capitalization must be used for this term.

Business accounts: AlertPay:’s most robust account has the highest limits and multiple Business profiles. “Accounts” when preceded by the name of an account type does not require capitalization.

Business profile: A feature of Personal Pro and Business accounts that allow a single AlertPay: account to accept payments for multiple businesses. “Profile” when preceded by the name of an account type does not require capitalization.

Buyer: A member who buys goods or services from a seller; a generic term for anyone who uses AlertPay: to spend money. Buyers can also be referred to as “customer” or “member” in a broader context, but only if the content is meant for both buyers and sellers.

C

Checkout: Online point of sale in which a customer can pay for their purchase through our system. This term will replace “Pay Process” which is an internal term that does not mean anything to end-users.

Customer Support: Term used for the customer service department. Initial capitalization is required.

D

Deposit: A mode of funding an AlertPay: account. Capitalization is required only when referring to the feature (noun) rather than the action (verb).

E

Earn Money: A referral program that rewards members with money. Initial capitalization is required only when referring to the feature (noun) rather than the action (verb).

F

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions; also known as Help Desk, Knowledgebase and Support Center. This is the only acceptable term that is to be used.

H

Help Desk: Also known as FAQ, Knowledgebase and Support Center.

High-risk: Refers to members who reside in countries deemed too risky to register for an AlertPay: account. Capitalization is not required as the term is not a proper noun. This term should NOT be used as a name for an account type. ***This term should never be used in conjunction with an industry type such as Pharmaceuticals or Adult as the term has negative connotations.  

K

Knowledgebase: AlertPay:’s FAQ section; also known as Help Desk, FAQ and Support Center.

M

Member: Refers to anyone who uses our service. This term can be used to replace Buyer, Seller when the context is general rather than specific. It is preferable to merchant, client and customer as it connotes a sense of belonging.

Merchant: Should no longer be used; see “Seller” which is the accepted term.

Mass Pay: AlertPay:’s payment system for paying multiple members at once. Initial capitalization is required only when referring to the feature (noun) rather than the action (verb).

Micro Deposit: s: Two Deposit: s of under $0.15 each sent by us to confirm a customer’s banking information. Initial capitalization and hyphenation are not required.

P

Personal Pro: Has many of the same features as a Business account except for multiple business profiles. This is the accepted spelling and capitalization.

Personal Starter: An introductory free account for AlertPay: members who only wish to shop online occasionally or send money. This is the accepted spelling and capitalization.

Proof of Ownership: The business document we require in addition to the KYC documents used to verify a business; these are typically the Article of Incorporation or Tax Registration document. This is the accepted spelling and capitalization.

R

Restricted: A member’s account that is suspended, locked or has other limitations placed on it. To be used in place of “Admin Lock” or “Suspended” as these are not intuitive to the member.

Request Money: Similar to invoicing a customer. Initial capitalization is required only when referring to the feature (noun) rather than the action (verb).

S

Seller: Formerly known as “Merchant”. This is a member who sells goods or services online; a generic term for anyone who uses AlertPay: to accept/collect money. Sellers can also be referred to as “customer” or “member” in a broader context, but only if the content is meant for both buyers and sellers.

Support Center: Also known as FAQ, Knowledgebase and Help Desk. “FAQ” is the only acceptable term that is to be used.

T

Terms of Service: The seller’s Terms of Service; sometimes erroneously used in place of “User Agreement”. See User Agreement.

Test mode: This is used to test the IPN after a successful payment. This is not a real transaction. Initial capitalization is not required.

Third-Party Profile: This refers to the section in an AlertPay: account with information on the representative(s) granted third-party access to an AlertPay: account. When referring to the actual page, initial capitalization is required. When using it as a noun, use initial capitalization for “Third Party”, but use lower case for “profile”. If used as an adjective, the phrase must be hyphenated; if used as a noun, no hyphen is necessary.

Transaction PIN: A member-generated code that provides an added layer of security. The member must enter it before performing any transactions, deleting sensitive information or closing an account. Initial capitalization is required.

U

User Agreement: The AlertPay: Terms of Service; it is only to be referred to as this and never “Terms of Service” as TOS does not appear anywhere on the site.

V

VAN Number: This is a Virtual Account Number assigned by Earthport to our members’ bank accounts. Capitalization for “VAN” is required.

W

Withdraw: An action that removes funds from an AlertPay: account using any of our available methods. Capitalization is required only when referring to the feature rather than the action.
